The author, a veteran Sri Lankan airline captain, compiled this collection of 40 stories, commencing with his early days as a trainee civil pilot, then flying in the air force volunteer reserve, through to his stellar career with all three ‘incarnations’ of Sri Lanka’s national carrier, punctuated by an interlude with a leading Southeast Asian airline. All told with readable ease yet enlightening detail, some stories entertain and amuse; others are more serious, especially accounts of fatal air accidents, which speak to the writer’s passionate interest in aviation safety. This book is a must for everyone who flies and loves flying, and others merely fascinated by flight.
